Scientist at Ecology of Mediterranean Forest  Unit attached to the Ecology and Biodiversity Department (ECODIV).

Nicolas Martin is a Research Fellow at the Mediterranean Forests Research Unit. His research focuses on the effect of drought on the functioning of trees and forests (water and carbon cycle). In particular, he is working on the effect of water deficit and high temperatures on tree physiology, including photosynthesis, respiration and the hydraulic mechanisms leading to desiccation. Nicolas Martin is also working on the links between drought, desiccation of fuel (i.e. plants) and fire danger. To this end, he is contributing to the development of the SurEau model, which predicts the effect of plant drying trajectories by taking into account their physiological characteristics and the characteristics of the stands (soil, climate). He is also Co-PI of the Font-Blanche experimental platform (currently in the process of obtaining ICOS level 2 accreditation), where the water, energy and carbon cycles are continuously monitored. Nicolas Martin is the author of 35 publications (2012-2019 period).
